River Lifey in Dublin
River Lifey is the major river in Dublin the sizzling capital of Ireland. The river got its name from the word Liphe or Life this was the plain from which the river flowed, the actual name of the river was An Ruirthech, strong running.
Lifey rises in the Sally Gap near to Kippure in Wicklow, the river then drifts for 125 km before merging with the tidal waters of the Irish Sea. Though not a big river but still it had been close to Dublin’s history, culture and literatue.
Liffey was a centre of trade for many years as it was immensily used as a major trade route to dublin, great cargo ships like Lady Patricia and Miranda Guinness use to meander along this river. Many tours are also guided along River Liffey in recent years.
There are several bridges along the River Lifey one of such Ha’penny bridge, got its interesting name as it cost half a penny to cross it. Other than that O’connell bridge and East Link.
